The National Day of Prayer was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. It designates the first Thursday in May as a day of national prayer.  2023 marks 72 years of celebrating the National Day of Prayer in America.

The 2023 theme for the National Day of Prayer is, “Pray fervently in righteousness and avail much,” based on James 5:16b, “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”
